Import 3D Models

CAD Xpansion SDK: Import and Geometry Recognition for 3D Models

CAD models import and geometry recognitionWith the CAD Xpansion SDK, you can enable the applications you have developed to import 3D models from STEP, IGES or STL files and to recognize the geometry of specific parts (core area: shafts) in mechanical design in STEP files. The SDK´s scope of features and the supported model types are enhanced permanently. Customization according to the clients´ requirements is possible as well.

With only a small amount of source code lines in your application, you open any CAD file and display it in your program window. The following functionality is available and may be easily used:

  • Display of the 3D model
  • Zoom in, zoom out
  • Rotate and move the model
  • Select the model elements, change the color or remove elements

Examples of 3D Models Import:

CAD import

CAD Xpansion SDK in your application: functionality for visualization including zoom, rotate, move, select and remove is available without effort

These shaft elements (DIN 743) will always be imported and recognized:

Shaft - geometry recognition

Moreover, other widespread shaft elements and grooves can be recognized and parametrized. One can also change the parameter values, i.e. change the geometry, and export the model to a CAD format.

Trial Version availableTRIAL APPLICATION

Download the CAD Xpansion Viewer and use it as a trial application. With the CAD Xpansion Viewer, you can import and display models in STEP, IGES, STL. Besides, you may recognize the shaft geometry in detail. The application gives you a first impression of the functionality without having to develop a trial program yourself. If you have questions please simply refer to our technical support. We look forward to hear from you!

The geometry recognition can be done for shafts in mechanical design in STEP format.

Examples

The CAD Xpansion SDK comes with programming examples (source code in Microsoft Visual Studio C++) and sample models.  As a first step, simply try the export and import features in the viewer.
